Why Does a Skincare Company Care About the Soil?

Apr 21, 2022Natalie Novak-Bauss

Why does a skincare company care about soil? Well, because we believe that the cure for what ails us – both in and on our bodies – is the Earth that gives us home.

The air we breathe.

The trees new growth and shed each year.

And, yes, the soil beneath our feet that our food, and face cream, are grown in.

Starting with the nutrients that exist naturally in the soil, KPS Essentials has revolutionized the skincare industry through its use of wild gathered botanicals. And nutrient-rich ingredients start with nutrient-rich soil. But that’s getting harder and harder to find.

It’s not just because our CEO, Natalie, is a Master Gardener, that we care deeply about the organic ingredients that we put into our products. Our efficacy depends on it. When the soil is degraded, it gets increasingly difficult to find those pure, natural, organic ingredients that have the vital nutrients that our body and our skin needs to thrive.

The soil is being stripped of its nutrients. And that’s a big problem.

A study by Scientific American on nutrients in food concluded that we would have to eat eight oranges to get the same amount of Vitamin A as our grandparents did with one orange because soil depletion has caused massive drops in nutrient levels in food.

So, what can we do to help?

We need to save the soil! And we need to do it before it’s too late.

That’s why we’re partnering with the Save Soil movement this Earth Day to give 100% of our profits to their worthy organization. You can purchase products here to do your part in leaving our planet to the next generation better than we found it.

#SaveSoil is a global movement envisioned by Sadhguru to bring about a concerted, conscious response to the impending soil extinction. KPS Co-Founders, Natalie, and Ron were lucky enough to visit Sadhguru’s Isha Institute of Inner Science a few weeks ago, where they experienced firsthand the work that Isha and Save Soil are doing to inspire and create change.

Save Soil is a movement that began three decades ago. Agriculture, deforestation, and other factors have degraded and eroded topsoil at alarming rates. Globally, 52% of agricultural land is already degraded.

In short, the planet is in crisis. If current rates of soil degradation continue, this would be the end of life as we know it.

We’re not sharing this to scare you, but we believe in taking care of people and the planet, which is why we’ve been leaders when it comes to sustainability. We know that every detail, even the soil,, makes a big difference!

Regenerative farming for regenerative skincare.

At KPS, the intentional hunt for regenerative farmers to source nutrient-rich ingredients is one of the most critical parts of the performance of our products.

Regenerative farming is a holistic approach to farming, focusing on symbiotically working with the ecological systems of nature as a whole, creating nutrient-rich ingredients from nutrient-rich soils.

KPS Essentials is founded on its mission to solve the unsolvable – and the way it’s done is by turning back to Mother Earth and what is naturally found all around us. That’s why our proprietary, food-grade ingredients are sought through wild-gathering or on the nutrient-rich soils of regenerative farms.

At KPS Essentials, Earth Day is a lifestyle.

KPS was founded by a celebrity aesthetician turned Master Gardener and a scientist whose career spans from NASA rockets to lifesaving salves for Arabian horses. This marriage of equals alone has brought a new and refreshing approach to the cosmetics industry that has long given up on anything organic and natural.

At a time when the Earth needs us most, we are witnessing more companies processing products in a lab for maximum profitability and maximum marketing spending – at the cost of greenwashing its consumers with false claims.

Since the very beginning, KPS has been dedicated to bringing our customers natural, food-grade ingredients that are vegan, cruelty-free, and organic. Not because it’s trendy, but because nutrient-rich earth-born ingredients provide efficacy, and it’s the right thing to do.

As we continue to grow, we are always improving our sustainable practices. In the first quarter of 2022, here are some major changes we made that we believe will have a positive impact on the environment going forward:

  1. Glass packaging – We moved to eco-friendly, recyclable glass packaging for all KPS Essentials products in Q1 2022.
  2. Wild gathering and sustainable farms – With our proprietary ingredients, we seek our sources that are wild gathered and not farmed. These sources are from nutrient-rich soil, unaltered by people.
  3. Partnering with Save Soil – We are dedicated to donating part of our proceeds to the Save Soil movement to help our Earth’s most resource regain those vital nutrients.
